What Is Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is where you get paid for referring people over a products and services. This can be a person or a company.

Most companies have affiliate programs, the best way to find out if they do is a quick google search.

Then you just sign-up and you’re done. You can start most affiliate marketing with no money out of pocket a lot of times.

Affiliate marketing works like this, you recommend a product or service to someone, they purchase something and you get paid. Sounds simple enough right?

The Pros & Cons Of Affiliate Marketing

Let’s go ahead and get the cons out of the way first:

The Cons

Sales won’t happen over night. You can go out and become an affiliate today, but you likely won’t make any sales in the beginning. If you don’t have an audience of buyers you will have to build that up first. I always suggest to my coaching clients to always be building their marketing list. It is your most valuable asset that you will have online.

Your lead goes on their marketing list. Once someone buys something through your affiliate link, they will go on that person or company email list. This means they will start to get marketing messages from that company. So make sure you are 100% confident in the product or service that you are offering.

You are not the only one promoting. You are not the only one who is going to be promoting the product or service. You have to find ways to stand out from everyone else. The most effect way to do this is through attraction marketing and branding yourself.

The Pros

You don’t have to create the product. The biggest benefit to affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to create the product or anything. You are leveraging someone eles’s work. This is awesome, expecially if you are just starting out.

After the sale support. You don’t have to worry about the billing or any type of customer support. The affiliate company handles all of that.

Easy start up. Most products or services you can become an affiliate for free. There is virtual no risk involved to you, if you decide affiliate marketing is not a fit.

What Should You Promote

Well, that depends on who your target audience is going to be. If you need some help figuring out who you should target, I wrote a blog post that will help you out.

I’m in network marketing, so most of my affiliate programs are with products and services that benefit the network marketing profession.

One thing I would suggest if you are going to promote a product or service at least be using it yourself. When I recommend something to my audience, best believe I’m either currently using it or have used it in the past.

Don’t Join To Many

One key thing I suggest you don’t do is run out here and join a bunch of different affiliate programs. Let me tell you it sucks. It gets hard to manage if you join to many programs. I remember when I got started, I thought yea I’ll go signup with all these different programs, multiple income streams right? It turned into a big mess.

I suggest finding 3-4 programs, that will benefit your audience and stick with those until you get the hang of things.
