Maybe you’re looking to start or have already started a side hustle while working full-time.
When I first started my online business, I was working a full-time job and like most people, I had a hard time finding the time to do the things needed to move my business forward.
Here are my tips I’ve learned along the way that hopefully will help you out.
The best thing you can do is to use your time wisely. Replace listening to music in your car with an audiobook, record videos on your smartphone while you’re on the go or before or after work. You can watch YouTube videos while you’re on the treadmill at the gym. You’ll also have to make some sacrifices, such as time with friends or not taking that vacation to stay home to work on your business.
How To Build Your Business When You Work Full-Time
Finding the time to build your business all while working full-time can be a challenge. With family duties, jobs, and social functions adding to the mix. There are, however, many people just like you who’ve built a really successful business while working a full-time job.
Look, we all love hanging out with our friends and going to social functions. You could use that time instead to work on your business. If it’s not directly related to your job or immediate family, really think to yourself how much you could improve your business if your time was spent working on it.
It’s not going to be easy to do at first but once you start seeing your growth personally and from a business perspective, it will be worth it.
I’ve swapped out listening to music when I’m driving and at the gym audiobooks and training videos. Think about how much time you spend in your car driving. Use that time for your personal development instead. I did some additional research on how much time the average person spends driving, and here is what I found:
“The amount of time the average driver spends behind the wheel each year is equivalent to seven 40-hour weeks at the office,” said Jurek Grabowski, research director for the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. “It’s clear that traveling by car remains a central part of Americans’ lives.”
Why Are You Building A Business?
What’s the number one reason you got started with your business? Hint: it can’t be about the money. Anytime, I prospect, someone, I always ask them why they are wanting to start a home business and if they say to make more money I always challenge them on that question. Having the mindset of being all about the money won’t be enough to keep you going when things get tough and they will get tough.
You must have a vision.
A guy I learned a ton from about building a business, Ray Higdon said, Your vision is what will keep you going during the times you don’t feel like doing the work.
If you really read that statement, it makes total sense. Maybe you want to retire your spouse or even retire early, maybe you want to be able to pick your kids up from school, donate more of your time to your favorite organization or charity. Whatever the case, your vision has to be something other than just money.
How You Can Use Your Time Wisely
Building your business using the internet makes it possible for you to work almost anywhere, from your car, if you’re on vacation. Here are some additional ways I’ve found worked for me when trying to free up my time.
If you look at most of my videos here on my blog, the majority of them were recorded in my car using my cell phone. When I would have a tip or video idea, I would hit that record button. I have an iPhone like most people. The camera on any smartphone these days is more than enough to record your videos. It’s not about the right lighting or having the perfect background, its about the content of your video.
If you’ve gotten to the point where you’re generating leads daily, calling them back in the car is a great way to make better use of your time as well. If you are not generating leads on autopilot daily and would like some help doing that, reach out to me, I can help.
Start right now and figure out how you can find more time in your day to work on your business. The key is having a routine you can commit and stick too.
Here is how one of my typical days would look:
On my drive into work, I would listen to an audible book through my car stereo. I would get to work and park, pull out my phone, and record a video.
On my breaks, I would call back my leads, and set appointments for followups. I would answer emails from my phone, respond to text messages and voice mails. You can do a lot with the time you already have, you have to be doing the right activities though. In my case, I was building a network marketing business so I was using the majority of my time reaching and following up with people.
How Much Time Do You Need?
Just about everyone starts off part-time building a business and keep their day or night job. You really need to learn how to build it while you are part-time. Then you’ll understand what it takes to do it on a bigger scale if and when you decide to go full-time.
It’s not about how much time you have its what you do with that it. Start utilizing the time you already have.
If it’s not directly benefiting your business moving forward you should stop doing it.
