Managing Your Mlm Downline Tips

Building a mlm downline is based upon the team building concept and not a management one. That means you should be empowering your team to be able to stand on their own two feet and build their organization. Don’t get caught up into thinking you need to manage them. Now I’m not saying don’t be there to support them but managing and supporting are two entirely different things. When you support them that means being there if they need help closing out a prospect or even if they are going through a rough period in their business you can be there to paint a picture of the light at the end of the tunnel. When you go into management mode you run the risk of giving to much attention to a certain part of your business while ignoring the rest of it.

Your team will do what they see you do. So if you are in management mode then they are going to think that is what they should be doing as well. If you want your business to grow then you should be out there prospecting and recruiting people. That is the best way to lead your downline by leading by example. You want your downline to have the ability to stand on their own two feet and not depend on you. This frees up your time to do other things. Usually if a new rep requires a lot of attention these are the one’s who usually ends up giving up. I’m not saying all the time but most of the time this is what ends up happening.

  1. Totally agree with you Dereco, It is very easy to get into management mode when instead creating other leaders should be at the forefront of our minds.
    Thanks for sharing

  2. EXACTLY! I have a friend who has joined and left multiple MLMs because she cannot transition from job mode to independent mode. She leaves the MLM within the 30-day signup EVERY TIME because she is looking for a management based system. I tell her I would never want her on my team (YES – I tell her flat out) because I will not be anyone’s boss and I will not hold myself responsible for their results – which is what a manager does. She agrees with me, joins another MLM, and yes, quits within the 30 day window.

    1. Wow Trudy. I don’t blame you one bit I wouldn’t signup anybody with that type of track record. I would do the something and flat out tell them NO too! I don’t want to be anyone’s boss either. Excellent comment and thanks for stopping by!

  3. Dereco you are RIGHT ON POINT with today’s post. So many leaders go into manager mode and their team thinks they have to do the same thing, then the leader wonders why their team is not growing. No one wants to have a second boss!!

  4. I believe a lot of people do this because they feel like they would rather over-manage than under-support.

They are afraid to leave the rep in a position where they are getting no support. And frankly, some people do not support their reps like they should.

But it’s like you said, you have to know the difference between managing and supporting. Thanks for making this clear, Dereco. Great couple of points.

    1. Great point Rich, managing and supporting are two different things. You can still be there for your team without managing them. You’re right when you start to build a downline you want to make sure your teammates have all the support they need and some leaders out here fail to do that.

Thanks for the great comment and for stopping by!

  5. Hello, I need help all over I am with SFI I have a good team but I really want to motive them to have their own team and make residual income for life. By Duplication. What yall think?
