Network marketing is gathering a group up people who buy and sell products or services. You are paid a commission from the efforts of the team that you build.

So it just makes sense to use the internet to build your business. You can only meet so many people in the day but with the internet, you can virtually meet people and expose people to your opportunity 24/7.

Online network marketing is simply building your business by meeting people online through social media or some other form of content.

How To Start A Network Marketing Business Online

I would suggest you learn how to do attraction marketing and make it at the center of your online efforts. Don’t worry if you never heard of that term before I’m going to help you out.

Attraction marketing is simply you attracting people to you. Instead of you chasing and reaching out to them. You can have people reaching out to you pretty much around the clock, wanting to buy your product or joining your business.

For attraction marketing to work, you need to provide value and that means solving peoples problems. People buy and join people. They are not going to buy from you if all you do is run around and post your link on your Facebook profile or in groups telling people to join you or buy your product!

One of the biggest things I’ve learned about network marketing is you should always make it about the other person. Most network marketers make it about them. They only want you to signup so they can make a commission. This is what turns most people off about this profession.

It’s not about you or your product. It’s about identifying a problem your prospect has and presenting a solution for it.

Building A Network Marketing Business Online Is Not Easy

Trying to put all the pieces together to build your network marketing business online is not easy. I remember coming online back in 2010 and not having a clue as to how I was going to make this work.

I still to this day do not know everything but there are some things that I have learned on this journey that I want to share with you.

There is a learning curve. You can’t just wake up one day and expect to know how to market online.

It is NOT fast nor is it free if you come across anyone who tells you this you should turn the other way.

There is no such thing as an overnight success. It will take time. Remember when you first learned how to ride a bike. I’m sure you fell off before you got the hang of it.

Building your network marketing business is the same way. You are going to fall down, you are going to mess up but you have to keep moving forward and getting better.

The biggest thing that helped me and still does to this day is I got plugged into a marketing system that keeps me up to date on all the latest marketing strategies, lead generation, and training. If you want to shorten your learning curve, you may want to check this out.

Majority of the people I have talked to are already in a company they love and trying and convince them to join my deal for one is not cool and not good for this profession but this is an area where affiliate marketing can help fill this gap and open up additional streams of income for your business.

If my leads are happy with their current company but say, they need some help with generating leads I would point them to a product that I felt like would help them in their business.

Build Trust

To get people to buy and join you, you have to build trust with them. You do this by creating content. The most effect and my favorite way to do this is through blogging.

In my opinion, there is no better way to market and create leverage in your business than having a self-hosted WordPress blog using your name. You always want to use your real name.

Don’t use anything related to your mlm company for your website name. Most network marketing companies do not allow you to do that anyway. Also, what would happen if you decided to switch companies or if they went out of business?

Figure Out Your Target Audience

Don’t try and market and recruit to any and everybody. When you take this approach, you will usually end up attracting nobody. Network marketing has different audiences as well. Here are some examples to help you with figuring out your target market:

Existing network marketers

Stay at home moms or dads

Real Estate Agents

People looking to get into shape

When you figure out your target audience, it makes creating content and solving their problems a bit easier. For instance, if you were targeting people looking to get into shape, you could blog or create videos how to stay in shape.

You then find fitness groups and share your content in there. If you were in a health and wellness mlm, you would not want to share your stuff with a travel group. Do you see how that is not relevant?

Pick Just One Strategyhow to start a network marketing business online

I can’t stress this enough. You need to be laser-focused on just ONE marketing strategy for at least a solid year. Don’t bounce around “trying” all the latest and greatest marketing trends, also known as the shiny object syndrome.

There are several different ways you can market. Some of them are free, and some of them are paid. I’ll touch on a few of my favorite Strategies below.

Video Marketing

You can create short videos and post them on sites like youtube or Dailymotion. You can also go live on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Periscope.

Setting up an account on these the platforms like I’ve I mentioned is free. Video marketing is also the number one way to get people to like, know and trust you and you can reach people from all around the world.

Understand it will take some time to see results. You more than likely won’t see any results from your video marketing efforts in the beginning. Not to mention your videos will probably suck.

Here is a simple strategy to creating videos,  You want an intro “Hi my name is Dereco Cherry.” Ask a question, “Do you ever struggle with….”, Answer the question and then have a call to action.

The most important part to that strategy is your call to action, you want to tell your viewers exactly what you want them to do next.



Blogging is my number one strategy when it comes to generating leads for my network marketing business online. If you do decide to go blogging, you always go with a self-hosted WordPress site. Stay away from those free blogs.

You could build an empire alone just with just blogging, done the right way of course. Your blog should be your home base on the internet.

All of your marketing efforts should point back to your blog. Your blog should be your home base on the internet. You own it and nobody can shut you down (unless you don’t pay your hosting bill).

Here are some tips for you on getting started with blogging. First, don’t let technology hold you up. If you know zero about how to setup a website, hire out someone to do it for you. You can use a site like to find someone to do it. Maybe you know someone who knows how to set a blog up and could help you out.

Second, focus on solving your target audience problems with your content. What are you learning from books and training that you could teach?

Social Media Marketing

Most network marketers screw up using social media. You should not post your links all over your wall. Your company name should not be found anywhere on your profile.

Use your social media profiles as spokes that direct people back to your blog. Here is how that can work, you can do a blog post that describes the top 5 ways to get six pack abs.

You could give away 2 of them on Facebook as a status update or do a Facebook live giving the 2 tips and at the end tell them to visit your blog to grab the other 3.

You don’t own any of your social media profiles. Keep that in mind if you are relying solely on Facebook etc to build your mlm business.People use social media to be “social” they don’t come on there to buy stuff. Look to make connections to people to at least see if they are open. Don’t ever send unsolicited links to someone. Always get their permission to do it first.

Build Your Marketing List

No matter which strategy you chose, building your marketing list with leads should be your number one goal. You will need an autoresponder to manage your leads. I use a service called Aweber.

This service allows you to send out emails and stay in front of your leads. You can also connect this service to your capture pages so when people put in their information they go straight onto your marketing list.

Some More Tips

Don’t use hype when you are talking to your prospects. Using hype usually attracts weak people. Set realistic expectations. If you’ve told your prospect they will be rich overnight, what do you think is going to happen when it does not happen? They will usually quit. So be upfront, let them know this business is not easy but if they put in the work it can pay off big!

Look to build a connection first. Stop looking to hit a home run as soon as you meet someone. Get to know them. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accepted a friend request on Facebook and the very first message has their link in it asking me if I’m interested in joining their business.

Or they ask me a question and the answer is clearly there on my profile. Hint: Before you message someone take a look at their profile and find out a little bit about them. Find something to open the conversation with.

  • Don’t be attached to the outcome. If you prospect someone and they flat out tell you no, don’t take it personal, it’s just not the right time. Thank them for their time or even better ask them for a referral.
  • You still have to pick the telephone and call your leads. This is a relationship business first.
